Memoirs from High Tide for solo piano (2022)

Duration: indeterminate

Program Notes:

The graphics used in each of the four movements are derrived from maps of Maryland. The first movement, Chesapeake, is a portion of the Chesapeake Bay. Movement 2, Kayak to the Bridge and Back. outlines a map of bridges throughout Maryland. Sailing Lessons uses fragments of the state border. The Long Way Home outlines road maps connecting locations on the Eastern Shore.

The indeterminate nature of this piece reflects the fluidity of memory recollection and the ever-changing ways in which we percieve our experiences. There is no 'wrong' interpretation of the notation. Irreplicability evokes the exploration of different memories with each performance.

Memoirs from High Tide was premiered by pianist Carrick McCullough on April 26th, 2022 at Old South Church in Boston, MA. The performance took part in Berklee College of Music's Society of Composer's concert, for which the theme was "Upbringings". Memoirs from High Tide was composed as a reflection on my own upbringing, growing up on the Eastern Shore of Maryland
